MSU Shooting. I believe you are referring to the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which is commonly referred to as the Parkland Shooting.
The Parkland Shooting was a tragic event that took place on February 14, 2018, when a former student of the high school entered the campus with a semi-automatic rifle and killed 17 people, including students and faculty members. The incident was one of the deadliest school shootings in US history and sparked a national debate on gun control and school safety.
The shooting resulted in widespread media coverage and a renewed push for gun control legislation. Students who survived the shooting organized a movement called “Never Again MSD” to advocate for stricter gun control measures and school safety reforms. They organized a nationwide protest called the “March for Our Lives,” which drew an estimated 1.2 million participants from cities across the US.
The Parkland Shooting also led to significant changes in Florida’s gun laws. In response to the shooting, the Florida legislature passed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, which raised the minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21 and imposed a three-day waiting period for most gun purchases. The law also authorized the arming of some school personnel and provided funding for mental health services in schools.
The Parkland Shooting has had a lasting impact on the national conversation around gun control and school safety. It has spurred several new laws and initiatives aimed at preventing gun violence and improving school security. However, it has also highlighted the deep divisions and political polarization around the issue of gun control in the US.
Overall, the Parkland Shooting was a tragic event that touched the lives of many people and sparked a national movement for change. It is a reminder of the need to continue working towards a safer and more just society, where every person can feel safe and secure in their schools and communities
